In 1938, Morry established Oretsky Eggs on his property in Cotati. The sole business was the distribution of eggs from ranches to retailers. In 1989, Morry retired from his day-to-day responsibilities but continued packing eggs three days a week for the company. He retired in earnest in 2004 and passed away in 2008 at the age of 89. Morry devoted his life to the company and industry he loved and was so proud of what his company had become. His dedication to service and customers lives on in the company values we honor every day.
Mike's entire career has been devoted to Cotati Food Service. Mike began working for Oretsky Eggs in 1967 as an egg packer, becoming a route driver in 1970 and a partner in the business in 1986. In 1973, Mike recognized that customers needed more than just eggs and began purchasing butter and cheese for wholesale. Pleased with the success of the new products, Mike continued to familiarize himself with customers' needs and add additional products to the company's inventory.
Mike's wife, Charleen, joined him in the business in 1986, and they acquired the rest of the business from Morry in 1990. Under Mike and Charleen's guidance, the company had grown to 25 employees and ranked among Sonoma County's top 500 companies.*
Ed's work experience is also solely in the food industry. Ed came to Cotati Food Service in 1995 after an extensive career in retail grocery management, where he gained a comprehensive familiarity with and appreciation for food use and preparation. Ed has first-hand experience of what customers expect from their foodservice distributors. As a result, he strives to provide that same level of superior service that he expected from vendors when he managed grocery stores in Santa Rosa.
In January 2000, Ed became a partner in Cotati Food Service. In July 2010, he completed his purchase of the company. He is excited to continue the growth and development of the oldest locally owned broadline foodservice distributor in Northern California.
